
No. 12 Field Hockey to Face No. 5 Ohio State
BERKELEY – No. 11-seed California field hockey will head to Durham, N.C. to face the No. six-seed Ohio State Buckeyes on Saturday, Nov. 11 at 11 a.m. (PT) in the NCAA Field Hockey Regional, the NCAA field hockey committee announced today.
Sixteen teams made the field, four teams were seeded overall, No. 1 Maryland, No. 2 Wake Forest, No. 3 Duke and No. 4 Princeton. Also joining California and the four seeded teams in the championship field are American, Virginia, Iowa, Ohio State, James Madison, Old Dominion, UConn, Boston, Penn State, North Carolina and Richmond.
Duke and James Madison will also compete in Durham, with the winner of their game advancing to face the winner of the California-Ohio State game.
The last time California and Ohio State was in 2004, when the Bears defeated the Buckeyes 4-2 in Ann Arbor, Mich. Valentina Godfrid had three goals in the contest.
Williams Field located on the Duke campus will serve as the site for the three games this weekend. The winner of Sunday’s game advancing to Winston-Salem, N.C. for the National Championship.
California advanced to the NCAA tournament by defeating Ohio, 1-0, on Tuesday, Nov. 7 in an NCAA Play-In game, in Berkeley. This past weekend, Cal claimed its second consecutive NorPac Championships with a, 3-1, win over Stanford.
The Bears have faced five of the tournament teams this season. They beat American, but lost to four other teams.
