Feddersen and Walls Take Home Top Honors as the NorPac Conference Announces 2002 All Conference Team

Stanford, Calif. - The 2002 NorPac All Conference team was announced by Commissioner Carla Konet at the 2002 NorPac Championship banquet. California's Nora Feddersen and Appalachian State's Emily Walls were name West and East Division Player of the Year respectively. California's Shellie Onstead was named NorPac Coach-of-the-Year.

Feddersen, a junior, led the conference in each offensive category, tallying 10 goals and six assists for 26 points. A two-time Offensive Player of the Week, Feddersen collected six goals and two assists in conference play. In helping lead Cal to the West Division title and a top-20 ranking for most of the season, the native of Berlin, Germany, has scored four game-winning goals, including three in overtime.

Walls' seven goals and 17 points ranks her tied for third and fifth in the conference respectively. The Milton, Del. native was named Co-Offensive Player-of-the-Week on September 10 for her four-goal performance against Saint Francis. The senior forward has also notched three helpers on the season.

This is the second consecutive year that Shellie Onstead has been honored as Coach-of-the-Year. She guided the Bears to an 11-6 overall record and a perfect 6-0 mark in conference play. Her team started the year 6-1 and earned a top-20 ranking in the first poll. Cal remained in the poll for several weeks, climbing to #14 at one point, giving the Golden Bears' the distinction of being the highest ranked team in NorPac history.

Other awards were handed out as well. In the East, Erin Lenhardt of Radford was named Offensive Player of the Year, Davidson's Jessica Barton was named Defensive Player Of The Year and SMS's Liz Miyashita was name Rookie of the Year. In the West, Feddersen was also honored as Offensive Player of the Year, while Stanford's Tysie Sawyer and Pacific's Dana Walsh were named Defensive and Rookie of the Year respectively.

West Player of the Year/Offensive Player of the Year: Cal's junior Nora Feddersen (Berlin, Germany) led the conference in each offensive category, tallying 10 goals and six assists for 26 points. East Player of the Year: Senior Emily Walls (Milton, Del.) of Appalachian State is the second leading scorer on the Mountaineers' squad this season. Her seven goals and 17 points ranks her tied for third and tied for fifth in the conference respectively. She was named Co-Offensive Player-of-the-Week on September 10 for her four-goal performance against Saint Francis. The senior forward has also notched three helpers on the season.

East Offensive Player of the Year: Radford's Erin Lenhardt (Hayes, Va.) led the Highlanders with eight goals and 18 points, ranking her tied for third and fourth in the conference in those categories respectively. A Co-Offensive Player-of-the-Week, the junior scored half of her goals in conference play. A key hitter on corners, the junior tallied the game-winner in 1-0 victory at Appalachian State and assisted on the OT game-winner against SMS.

West Defensive Player of the Year: Senior Tysie Sawyer (Concord, Mass.) of Stanford is the team's most consistent defensive player and supports the attack. A captain this season, she has been a defensive anchor for the Cardinal all four years. She plays every defensive position on the field, including the key player on the corner defense. She is a very sound tackler and is always in great defensive position. Sawyer also contributed a career-high six points on offense.

East Defensive Player of the Year: Davidson's senior Jessica Barton (Hummelstown, Pa.) was a key defensive player for the Wildcats this season. Starting every game in her collegiate career, she has tallied 15 goals and eight assists. A key player on both offensive and defensive penalty corners, she is very composed and controlled, making her a great on-the-field leader. She has been selected to the NFHCA Senior All-Star game.

West Rookie of the Year: Freshman back Dana Walsh (Encinitas, Calif.) of Pacific has played in every game this season and is the Tigers' my most consistent and steady player. She is a strong and accurate hitter and the primary inserter on offensive corners, leading the squad with three assists.

East Rookie of the Year: Liz Miyashita (Richmond, British Columbia) of Southwest Missouri State has been a key figure for the Bears defensive unit this season that has yielded a conference low 1.51 GAA. This center midfielder has been honored twice this season as NorPac Rookie of the Week. She has great field vision and is an excellent distributor and tackler. She also tallied a goal and an assist.

Coach of the Year: This is the second consecutive year Cal's Shellie Onstead has been honored as Coach of the Year. In her eighth season, she guided the Bears to an 11-6 overall record and perfect 6-0 record in conference play. Her team started the year 6-1 and earned a top-20 ranking in the first poll. Cal remained in the poll for several weeks, climbing to No. 14 at one point, giving the Golden Bears the distinction of being the highest ranked team in NorPac history.
